Obstetrics & Gynecology

Obstetrics and gynecology covers routine gynecologic care, pregnancy, and the conditions of the reproductive years and beyond, from adolescence through the menopausal transition.

Gynecologic care combines periodic preventive assessment with the evaluation of specific concerns — bleeding, pain, or changes that warrant investigation. Cervical screening follows current national guidance and is planned around the individual patient's history.

Obstetric care is longitudinal by nature: a sequence of visits across a pregnancy, each with a defined purpose, with the pattern adjusted where a pregnancy needs closer attention.

The menopausal transition is treated as a clinical subject in its own right, with time given to symptoms, cardiovascular and bone health, and an evidence-based discussion of treatment options.

At a first visit

  1. Bring the dates of your last menstrual period, prior cervical screening results, and any relevant operative or obstetric history.
  2. For a first obstetric visit, bring a list of current medications and supplements, and any records from care received elsewhere.
  3. You may request a chaperone for any examination, and may ask for one at any point during the visit.

Working with other departments

Obstetric care frequently involves other departments — hematology for anemia and clotting questions in pregnancy, cardiology for cardiovascular conditions, and internal medicine for the management of chronic disease before, during, and after pregnancy.
